Dhaba Style Chilli Chicken with Gravy


INGREDIENTS:

FOR THE MARINATION:

  • Chicken - 400 g
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Pepper powder - 2 tsp
  • Green chili paste - 1 tsp
  • Vinegar - 1 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Egg - 1 
  • Maida - 2 tbsp
  • Corn flour - 3 tbsp
  • Oil - ½ tsp

FOR THE BATTER:

  • Water - 1 cup
  • Soya sauce - 2 tbsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Chilli sauce - 1 tsp (optional)
  • Tomato ketchup -  1 tbsp
  • Vinegar - 1 tsp
  • Corn flour - 1 tbsp
  • Chilli flakes - 1 tsp


FOR THE SAUCE :

  • Oil 
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsp
  • Green chili - 4
  • Onion  - 2 
  • Capsicum  - 1 
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper powder  - 1 tsp

METHOD:

FOR MAKING CHILLI CHICKEN:

    1. Cut the chicken into small pieces.
    2. Mix together ingredients listed under " for the marination ". 
    3. Marinate the chicken well and keep aside for 1 hour.
    4. In a pan, heat oil.
    5. Fry chicken pieces on medium heat until slightly brown.
    6. Take out the fried chicken pieces on a kitchen paper and keep aside.

FOR MAKING SAUCE:

    1. In a bowl, add the ingredients mentioned under "for the batter" and mix well. Keep aside.
    2. In a pan, heat oil.
    3. Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for a minute.
    4. Now add onion, green chili, and capsicum. Saute for a minute.
    5. Add the batter mix and let it boil.
    6. Once boiled, add salt and pepper powder.
    7. To that, add the fried chicken and mix well.
    8. Mix all the ingredients well and make sure that the chicken is well coated with the sauces. 
    9. Keep stirring so that the chicken does not stick to the pan. Serve hot!.

TIPS:

  • Use Kashmiri red chili powder for that perfect restaurant-like color. This would add the much-required color without making it spicier.
  • I have used both green and red capsicum. You may use according to your choice.
