Banana Stem Poriyal /Vazhai Thandu Poriyal




INGREDIENTS:


    • Vazhai thandu / Vazhaipindi  - 2 cups ( finely chopped)
    • Coconut oil - 2 tsp
    • Mustard seeds
    • Dry red chilly
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
    • Onion -  ½ small (chopped)
    • Green chilies - 2 (slit)
    • Turmeric powder-  ¼ teaspoon
    • Salt- to taste

METHOD:

    1. Cut the banana stem into thin roundels and remove the fiber while cutting using your fingers and finely chop them.
    2. In a  pan, heat coconut oil.
    3. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dry red chilies and curry leaves.
    4. Add chopped onion and green chilies, cook till it becomes soft.
    5. Add salt and turmeric powder and saute well.
    6. Now add the chopped banana stem. Sprinkle little water and cover the pan with a lid and allow to cook for 10 -12  minutes on low flame.
    7. Serve hot as a side dish for rice.

TIPS:

    • If you wish, You can also add coconut after the banana stem is cooked.
