Chembu Puzhukku

INGREDIENTS:


    • Chembu - 500 g
    • Onion - ½ (chopped)
    • Garlic - 3-5 cloves
    • Green chilly - 3 (slit)
    • Salt
    • Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
    • Water


SEASONING:


    • Coconut oil
    • Mustard seeds
    • Fennel seeds - ½  tsp
    • Cumin seeds -½  tsp
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
    • Dry red chilies - 4
    • Onion - ½ (chopped)
    • Garlic - 2-3 cloves


GRIND:


    • Coconut - ¼ cup
    • Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
    • Cumin seeds - ¼ tsp
    • Onion - ¼ 


METHOD:


    1. Cut chembu into small pieces.
    2. In a cooker, add chembu along with onion, garlic, green chilly, salt, and turmeric powder. Add enough water to barely cover the chembu
    3. Cook on a medium flame for 2-3 whistles.
    4. Slightly mash the chembu using a wooden spoon.
    5. In a pan, heat coconut oil
    6. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dry red chilies and curry leaves.
    7. Add cumin Seeds (Jeera) and fennel seeds to the pan and fry till it starts to crackle.
    8. Add onions and crushed garlic and saute well.
    9. In a blender, grind the above mentioned "grind" without adding water and add them.
    10.  Add mashed chembu and mix well. Add salt if needed.
    11. Close the lid and cook for about 2 minutes. Serve hot!
