Vazha-koombu Thoran / Banana Flower Thoran



INGREDIENTS:


    • Vaazha-Koombu- 1 number
    • Coconut oil - 2 tsp
    • Mustard seeds - ½  tsp
    • Dry red chilly - 2 numbers
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
    • Onion -  ½ small (chopped)
    • Green chilies - 2 (slit)
    • Turmeric powder¼ tsp
    • Salt- to taste

METHOD:

    1. Remove the few outer layers of the vaazha koombu till you see the soft and pale-colored edible part inside.
    2. Chop the Vaazha koombu and wash well with water to remove stains. Squeeze out any excess water.
    3. In a  pan, heat coconut oil.
    4. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dry red chilies and curry leaves.
    5. Add chopped onion and green chilies, cook till it becomes soft.
    6. Add salt and turmeric powder and saute well.
    7. Now add the chopped vaazha  koombu. Sprinkle little water and cover the pan with a lid and allow to cook for 10 -12  minutes on low flame.
    8. Serve hot as a side dish for rice.


TIPS:

    • If you wish, You can also add coconut after the vaazha koombu is cooked.
