Falafel

INGREDIENTS:

    • Chickpeas / Kabuli chana - ½ cup
    • Onion - 1 small (roughly cut)
    • Garlic -  3 cloves
    • Green chili - 4 numbers
    • Coriander leaves - 2 cup
    • Cumin seeds / cumin powder- ¼ tsp
    • Coriander powder - ½ tsp
    • Chilli powder - ½ tsp
    • Salt - to taste
    • Pepper powder - ½ tsp
    • Garam masala - ¼ tsp
    • Baking soda - ¼ tsp
    • Baking powder - ¼ tsp
    • Maida - 1 tbsp
    • Besan - 1 tbsp
    • Lemon juice - ½ tsp (optional)

METHOD:

    1. Soak the chickpeas in enough water overnight or for 8 to 9 hours.
    2. Drain chickpeas well.
    3. Take a food processor/ grinder jarblender jar.
    4. Add the chickpeas and remaining falafel ingredients.
    5. Pulse until the mixture reaches a coarse crumb texture without adding any water. (The consistency should be semi coarse, don’t make it too pasty or too smooth.)
    6. Take the falafel mixture in a bowl. Check the taste and add more salt or spice powders if required. Mix well.
    7. Prepare small/medium-sized balls from the ground mixture and place onto a clean plate
    8. While making balls, if the falafel breaks or if the dough is sticking to hand then add a tbsp more of maida and mix well.
    9. In a pan, heat oil.
    10. Place the falafel and stir occasionally, keeping the flame on medium.
    11. Once the falafel turns golden brown, drain off on to the kitchen paper and serve hot !.

TIPS:


    • You can even refrigerate the mixture for a couple of days.
