Ulli Vada | Onion Pakoda

INGREDIENTS:

  • Onion - 2
  • Green chili - 2
  • Curry leaves -  1 sprig
  • Salt 
  • Ginger - small
  • Fennel seeds - ½ tsp
  • Chilli powder - ½ tsp
  • Hing - ¼ tsp
  • Besan (Gram flour) - 3 tbsp
  • Rice flour - 1tbsp
  • Baking soda - a pinch

 METHOD:

    1. Cut the onions into fine slices.
    2. In a bowl, add sliced onions, ginger, green chili, curry leaves, fennel seeds, and salt.
    3. To that add chili powder and hing.
    4. Mix well.
    5. Now, add besan, baking soda, and rice flour.mix well.
    6. In a pan, heat oil.
    7. Scoop 1 tbsp of dough with spoon and using another spoon gradually place them into the hot oil.
    8.  Deep fry them. Flip to both sides several times, for even frying.
    9. Transfer the fritters to the tissue to remove excess oil.
    10. Serve hot!.
TIPS:

  • You can also use maida instead of besan.
  • You can also add a few drops of oil while mixing the batter to get a crispy,oil-free pakoda.
